Match Preview from Mike Wray

We host Plymouth Parkway at the Webbswood Stadium this Wednesday evening looking to gain a valuable three points, kick off is 7.45pm.

Marine 6th P36-W18-D8-L10 62pts
Plymouth Parkway 11th P34-W14-D11-L13 49Pts

Supermarine host the first of what will now be two home games this week, with the visit of 11th placed Plymouth Parkway on Wednesday evening – looking to avenge the cruel defeat we suffered at Bolitho Park back in March. Speaking after that match, Parkway manager Lee Hobbs believed it was his sides best result of the season, telling Parkway TV: “It was a big game for us.

“It was a team that were above us, a team that we’re looking to potentially mirror in terms of their profile as a football club – they’ve probably got the same sort of resources as us – they’re well coached the manager has been there a long time, similar to myself and he’s built year upon year. “For us to have won this game, it’s a measure to where we’ve come from in terms of this year.”

Indeed as the season has progressed, Parkway have found themselves getting to grip with the Southern League Premier South and have climbed the standings and will undoubtedly record a season they will look back and be proud of, however like Marine, they saw their weekend home game fall foul to the wet weather – their third postponement in a row, with games at Tiverton Town [March 24] and home to Winchester City [March 28] also being washed out, so will be looking to get back at it as the sides take to the field.

With Parkway looking to conclude their season with a record finish, the few fixtures that did manage to beat the weather last weekend made matters even more exciting with promotion chasing Truro City falling to defeat at Beaconsfield Town 3-2, handing Bracknell – our guests this coming weekend, massive hope as they look to challenge for the top spot if they can win their games in hand, while Chesham United thrashed Yate Town 5-1 at home, to further lay claim to a place in the playoff spaces – and with the Generals set to visit the Webbswood Stadium in the final home game of the season

This final month could hardly get any more exciting as we continue with our own assault on the chasing pack, looking to round off our own highest placed finish – and with all the twists and turns to come, you wouldn’t want a wager on the final league positions come 5pm on April 22!
