Match Preview v Chesham United
Thursday 20th April 2023
Match Preview from Mike Wray
We round off the 2022/23 season at the Webbswood Stadium on Saturday afternoon as we host Chesham United, kick off 3:00pm.
League Standings:
Marine 6th P41-W22-D8-L11 74pts
Chesham United 4th P41-W23-D10-L8 79Pts
With sixth place confirmed on Wednesday evening, Supermarine will be looking to round off 2022/23 on a high with another three points against another opponent guaranteed to be taking part in the playoffs.
With league placings effecting the playoff lottery, the Generals will be looking to ensure they finish higher than Poole Town so will also be seeking a positive result to best aid their progression in the post-season competition.
Meanwhile, having spent a large portion of the season in the Golden Boot position, Harry Williams has been joined at the top of the standings by Moses Emmanuel of Hayes & Yeading United, who play tonight, so there’ll be added hope that he doesn’t score in their game at Tiverton Town and that Harry can re-claim the top spot come 4:45pm on Saturday – best of luck Harry!
No matter what the result however, this year has been an unmistakable success for the club and speaking after the mid-week home win, Supermarine manager Lee Spalding said: “I think it’s been an excellent season and all the boys deserve credit for all their efforts. “We’ve got one game to go and it’s important now that we turn up Saturday and do everything right and put in a good performance and try to win the three points.”
