With First XI manager Bobby Wilkinson getting players signed on for the forthcoming Southern League campaign, the Board have also been hard at work with the team they’ve selected to grace the hallowed turf as we prepare for the new season.

Every successful team needs a playing surface fit for purpose and after a difficult 2025/26 which saw no fewer than seven home games between November (2025) and February (2026) postponed due to the condition of the pitch, the board have moved to sign their very own promotion worthy team and we’re delighted to confirm the return of Bob and Adam Hunt to the Pitch Maintenance Team.

_“We decided to take a different approach with the pitch maintenance from this summer,“ said Mike Ash, who is the newly appointed board member responsible for pitch and ground maintenance.

“Bob and Adam live locally, support the club and have held the position previously so have the skills and experience required for looking after and preparing the pitch so it’s great to have them back and involved.“

Bob, Adam (and we can’t forget Sandra!) have continued to attend Supermarine games on a weekly bases for the past 14-years so will be familiar faces to many of our regular supporters and will undoubtedly be a popular choice with our fan-base too.

“We were thrilled when they put their names forward when we started looking at how we could improve the condition of the pitch and it’s great to get them both back onboard,“ Mike continued.

“We’re certain they’ll up the playing surface to the standards Bobby and the players will be looking for and we’re looking forward to the pitch returning to be one of the best at this level.“

Having been Groundsman at Supermarine for eight years previously, now retired Bob has the time required to ensure the playing surface is being better cared for and treated as and when necessary and with the assistance of equally hard working Adam, we’d like to officially welcome both back to the club and thank them for the work they have already started during this recent extremely hot spell, in renovating the pitch and making a start on preparing it for when pre-season gets underway.
