Marine v Hendon Preview

From Nick Taylor

With just seven league games remaining, Marine travel east along the M4 on Non-League Day to face Hayes & Yeading United, in what is a crucial fixture for both sides.

Like Marine, the West London team find themselves hovering just above the drop-zone, one point less than Stuart Fleetwood’s side, though with two games in hand.

Former player and ex-Weymouth, Southend and Aldershot Boss, Mark Molesley, returned to The Skyex Community Stadium in early October to take over from Richie Hanlon, who became his assistant, and results picked up for the club.

Hayes have been more used to battling for promotion rather than relegation over the past few seasons. However, they haven’t tasted victory since February 10th when they won 3-2 at Beaconsfield Town.

Last weekend, whilst Marine failed to overcome visitors Hendon, Hayes were without a game as they were due to visit Plymouth Parkway but was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

The two sides met at The Webbswood Stadium back on Saturday 25th November, with goals from Levi Irving and a brae from Dave Sims-Burgess secured a 3-2 victory for Marine. Points have been hard to come by for Marine in previous visits to The Skyex Community Stadium, though last season both sides finished with a point in a 0-0 draw.

This season, Hayes & Yeading have been involved in many games which have resulted in a win by the odd goal by either side, so travelling Marine supporters can anticipate a tight and cagey game.

With appearances for several Football League clubs, the vastly experienced Samni Odelusi, alongside ex-Chesham United and Farnborough midfielder Omar Rowe are key players for the home side, with ex-Reading youth player Ayo Faniyan and ex-Crawley Town striker Ronan Silva providing the firepower upfront.

Looking ahead to the fixture, Marine Manager Stuart Fleetwood was in positive mood, “ A great place to play going to Hayes knowing that a positive result will make the league position more comfortable. Others have games in hand but we are concentrating on points on the board. The only injury worry is Ioan Richards who had four stitches last week but will be 50/50 to play.“

With it being Non League Day the game has been designated as a Pay What You Want at The Turnstile for supporters of both sides.
