Marine vs Royal Wootton Bassett Preview:

We’re back at the Webbswood Stadium on Tuesday evening, as we take a break from league action and return to 1st Office sponsored Wiltshire Premier Shield action and a local derby in the Semi Final, against Royal Wootton Bassett Town, kick off 19.45.

There’s a quick return to the field on Tuesday as Head Coach Stuart Fleetwood looks to add to his sides good form ahead of a return to League action at the weekend.

Our visitors enter the tie on the back of a three-game unbeaten run with two wins and a draw. Manager Sam Collier will be looking for his side to produce an upset as the two sides meet for the first time in a competitive fixture since the 2001/02 campaign. Marine Head Coach Stuart Fleetwood will be relying on his team to remained focussed after he saw his side giving away too many sloppy goals on Saturday in Beaconsfield.

“I think our quality took us over the line, but we gave ourselves a mountain to climb which I’m most disappointed about, he told fan based Supermarine Radio after the 4-3 win. After we went ahead, we defended so resolutely, we got first contact on set pieces and headers and our clearances were strong.”

“Fleets also said it shouldn’t take us to be 4-3 up to defend like that, we should be doing it from the first whistle and it’s something I’ll need to address moving forward but we’ll patch up for Tuesday as it’s a big game for us in the Semi-Final against Bassett at home in the cup.”

The winners of the tie will secure a place in the Final which will take place at the County Ground on Tuesday April 2nd 2024 against either Chippenham Town or Westbury United.
