New Signing - Simon Downer

MARINE SIGN SIMON DOWNER

Swindon Supermarine Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of defender Simon Downer who played for National League South side Hampton & Richmond Borough last season. He played for Hampton for the past couple of seasons but has now decided to play more locally to his Swindon home.

Simon is a vastly experienced defender who began his career in the West Ham Academy before moving the short distance to play for Leyton Orient after his release. He has also played in the higher levels of the non-league pyramid with Aldershot, Weymouth, Grays Athletic, Wivenhoe, Sutton United (on three occasions), Maidenhead United and lastly Hampton & Richmond.

Manager Lee Spalding commented, “I believe we are bringing in yet another solid and experienced defender who has played in the National South last season and he will undoubtedly be someone to learn from for the other young defenders around him.”

Along with the chairman, with whom his signing wouldn’t have been possible, I am very happy that after a few weeks of negotiations we have now managed to sign Simon on a Southern League form for Swindon Supermarine FC and he will immediately go into the squad for tomorrows home match with league leaders Pool Town.
