Rhys Evans Joins Marine

Posted by Keith Yeomans

With goalkeeping coach James Whitlock leaving the club ten days ago manager Lee Spalding is pleased to announce that former England U21 International Rhys Evans has joined the club in the same role.

Rhys, who enjoyed football league spells with Bristol Rovers, QPR, Leyton Orient, Swindon Town, Bradford City, Blackpool, Millwall, Southend United and Exeter City will join us as our goalkeeping coach for the 2019/20 season.

Swindon born Rhys, who held the same role previously at Hereford FC and Salisbury FC has represented England at U18 and U20 level, before he made his debut for the England U21 team in 2003 against Serbia and Montenegro.

In September 2003, he declined a second chance to play for the U21s preferring to work on establishing himself as Swindon Town’s first-choice goalkeeper. He then went onto to win a League One playoff final in 2006/07 with Blackpool.

A warm welcome to Marine Rhys, we hope your time with us is a long and enjoyable one.
