Swindon Supermarine manager Lee Spalding insists squad depth will benefit his side over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Lee Spalding hopes to reap the benefits of squad depth over the Bank Holiday weekend as his side play two Southern League Premier Division South fixtures in the space of three days. Marine host county rivals Salisbury on Saturday before travelling to Wales on Bank Holiday Monday to face Merthyr Town.

The team have won two of their three league games so far this season and Spalding believes that having plenty of options at his disposal will ensure more points are picked up this weekend.

“We have got a big squad and a good squad too,” said Spalding. “We are in quite a fortunate position where the team that plays on Saturday might not be the team that plays on Monday. “That is an advantage for us this season as it means we can have fresh legs for the second game, if we need them. “With what we have got in the squad, I am confident we are capable of getting a win against Salisbury on Saturday.”

Ahead of this weekend’s Wiltshire derby, Salisbury boast an identical record to Marine in the league this season with two wins and one defeat from three games. Supermarine’s loss came last time out when they went down 1-0 at Truro City last Saturday. Spalding expects to see a response to that disappointment from his troops against a Salisbury side who he expects to be amongst the leading challengers for promotion.

“We have had a lot of positives so far,” said Spalding. “We have had two wins before our first defeat last Saturday and we will be looking to bounce back straight away this weekend. “It is a massive game against Salisbury, we know a lot about them. They are a good side and will be one of the better teams in the league this season.

“I fully expect them to be up there pushing for promotion at the end of the season. “I think it will be good for us to go up against a team like that this early in the season to see where we are. “I am confident we can be competitive and give them a good game.”

Matt Coupe (holiday) is unavailable for Marine, while Harry Williams (thigh) and Bradley Grey (shoulder) are expected to miss out of the weekend games.
