Swindon Supermarine Supporters Forum

An Excellent Evening

On Thursday 20th November Swindon Supermarine held its first Supporters’ Forum and it proved to be a truly outstanding evening. It left those who attended feeling energised, informed, and excited about the direction the club is heading. The forum’s atmosphere was warm, positive, and full of genuine engagement.

The night began with a behind-the-scenes opportunity as fans were invited to watch an open training session. Manager Bobby Wilkinson talked supporters through each drill in detail, explaining the purpose, intensity and planning behind the work being done. His energy and enthusiasm were unmistakable. Every exercise had a clear aim, and the insight Bobby shared into how he prepares the team gave supporters a deeper appreciation of the structure, ambition and positivity running through the squad.

The evening then moved into a lively and wide-ranging Q&A session with Bobby and assistant manager Mike Percival. From the start their openness, honesty and passion for the club shone through. They spoke proudly about the rapid development of a young squad, praising the players’ willingness to learn, their togetherness, and the leadership shown by senior players in the dressing room. Both emphasised how proud the players are to wear the Marine badge.

A broad mix of topics was discussed. Supporters were reassured that the current injury list is down to unavoidable and unlucky match incidents rather than overtraining. Bobby and Mike explained that they are always open to strengthening the squad, but only with players who genuinely add quality to the group. They also touched on the benefits and challenges of loan players - valuable at times but always subject to recall.

The management duo gave an insight into their demanding weekly schedule: two structured training sessions, thorough match preparation, multiple scouting trips to watch future opponents or potential signings, and ongoing internal discussions to review team progress. Bobby spoke passionately about young player development. He meets weekly with those involved in overseeing our development team. He spoke very positively about some of the young players coming through the club’s youth system.

Chairman Jez Webb closed the evening by highlighting the unity, belief, and relentless positivity of the management team - qualities that are clearly driving the club forward.

Supporters left the event inspired, encouraged, and connected. This first Supporters’ Forum created a real buzz and strengthened the sense that something exciting is building at Swindon Supermarine.

More forums will follow — if this one is any indication they will be unmissable.

Come on Marine!
