Match Preview from Mike Wray

A packed January schedule continues at the Webbswood Stadium on Saturday January 7th when we host the return game of our Wiltshire derby against Salisbury at The Webbswood Stadium, kick off 3:00pm.

Marine 12th P20-W9-D3-L8 30pts
Salisbury 8th P24-W10-D3-L11 33Pts

Supermarine can look forward to this weekend’s derby against the Whites in good spirits following a professional display in Merthyr on Monday afternoon which on any other day would have earned them a minimum of a point, and with the Whites losing 3-1 at home against Poole Town, both sides will hope to be bring their A-game in the hunt for three important points.

Looking ahead to the fixture, boss Lee Spalding said: “They’re in good form, but they also got beaten last weekend, so it’ll be another tough test. They’ve got a lot of good players, but we just need to cut out the silly mistakes for the goals and if we can stop giving away soft goals like we have in the last few games, we’ll find ourselves winning more than we lose.“

With Liam Armstrong ruled out through the broken foot he suffered at Merthyr, the footballing Gods were looking back down on Marine this week, with Josh Gould becoming unexpectedly available following his departure from Bath City, and he agreed to return to Wiltshire to continue where he left off.

Like Supermarine, our visitors also suffered an injury worry last Monday when defender Dinesh Gillela was stretched off during the first half of their defeat, however they were buoyed with his replacement, Josh Sommerton, who was on the bench following his return from being side-lined for a large part of the current campaign. Coming on for Gillela, the youngster produced a Man of the Match performance and will have his chances of selection, no harm at all.

Whites manager Brian Dutton can also call on the services of Seung Woo Yang if required, after the talented defender returned to the club on loan from Eastleigh at the start of the month.

Speaking to his club’s media team after their 3-1 defeat, Dutton said: “It was a difficult one to take because the form of the boys had been really positive up until that game in terms of, I think seven games, four wins and just the one defeat against Beaconsfield so we went in to that game excited to see where the boys were at and unfortunately, for whatever reason, the boys didn’t perform.“

Concluding, the visiting boss turned his attention to the game at Supermarine adding: “It’ll be another tough game, there are no easy games in this league. Swindon is just down the road so it’s a bit of a derby so we’ll look forward to the game and will want to see a real positive reaction from the lads.“
