Plymouth v Marine Preview

From Nick Taylor

After their late dramatic victory at Didcot Town on Easter Monday afternoon, Supermarine continue their quest to remain in the Southern League Premier South Division when they travel to take on Plymouth Parkway this Sunday with a 2:00pm kick off.

Whilst Marine are only one of six clubs to have four more fixtures remaining, due to many postponements at their Bolitho Park ground, which they shared with Truro City, still have eight to play which will involve three games being played a week for the next three weeks, and they will have a big say on who gets relegated as they are still to face many of the other sides in the bottom half of the league!

The two sides recently faced each at The Webbswood Stadium, Marine securing a vital 3-0 success a month ago, thanks to goals from Ioan Richards (pictured), Dave Sims-Burgess and Brad Gray. It was a score line which flattered Marine after the visitors squandered several good chances in the first half along with some stout defending by Stuart Fleetwood’s players.

Coming into this weekend sitting fourth from bottom on 39 points from only 32 games, Lee Hobbs’s side are unbeaten in their last three encounters, a 1-0 home win against Poole Town on Easter Monday the most recent. Easter Monday’s winning goal was scored by the impressive youngster, Dylan Jones, who caught the eye in the corresponding fixture at The Webbswood with his pace and directness. Whilst Hobbs will be hoping his influential midfielder Callum Hall, who has scored seven goals this season, will have recovered from injury having missed the Poole win.

With a full squad to pick from, including Joe Tumelty, who will begin a three match suspension for his sending off at Didcot from Monday and will therefore miss the last three fixtures.

Marine head coach Stuart Fleetwood looked ahead to the game; “It’s another big test versus Plymouth, who have had a gruelling schedule since we played last. A team, like us, fighting for points to be safe. Every game now is a chance to pick up points to reach an overall target we have set ourselves!”
