Richards reflects on opening game for Supermarine
New Supermarine loanee defender Ioan Richards says Marine will only continue to improve under Head Coach Stuart Fleetwood and assistant Dan Gillespie, after the new leadership injected a new system of play following their arrival at the Webbswood Stadium six days earlier.
Talking about how he felt after the narrow home defeat at the hands of Hungerford Town had gone, he said: “It was okay, we let in some sloppy goals – we need to work on that last little bit.
“I feel like we’re letting in easy goals and the gaffer said we’ve been a bit naïve around our own goal and once we start cutting those things out, the boys – in between the two boxes are unbelievable players, it’s just we need to get better between the final thirds.”
Supermarine have transformed their way of playing under the new management team and have shown that they’re more than a match for the opposition they have faced for large periods of games and having played under the Head Coach previously at Yate Town and his current employers Gloucester City, Ioan was quick to heap praise the style of play.
“It’s great, it’s brilliant,” he continued. “It’s pretty much total football and it is what football is all about.
“You want to be on the ball, you want to play, you don’t just want to boot it long all the time you actually want to get the ball on the floor and have it at your feet as much as you can and that is what Fleets allows us to do.
“It’s a new system for some of the boys but everyone on the team knows how to play, they’ve all got good feet so hopefully they can take it in to their game and introduce it to their performances and hopefully start to take some points.”
Supermarine remain at the foot of the table after yesterday evening’s defeat and now prepare to travel to Tiverton Town this coming Saturday afternoon, kick off 3pm.
