Wantage Town Preview

Swindon Supermarine return to action tonight, Tuesday 7th December at the Webbswood Stadium for a 7:45pm kick off in the Pitching In Southern League Challenge Cup 3rd tie against Division One Central side Wantage Town

The Fred’s as they are affectionally known as, under boss Matt Biddle are currently one place off the bottom of their league on nine points, with just two league wins all season. In fact they have not won since the last round of this Cup competition at the beginning of November and lost 10-1 at the weekend to Ware. To reach this round our visitors beat Cirencester Town 2-1 in the last round and Kempston Rovers in Round 1, also by a 2-1 scoreline as well. Tyriq Hunt is the main man for the visitors having scored four goals in seven games. But they also contain experienced players such as Mark Francis, Ben Lodge and Harvey Scholes alongside with former Marine men Jack Alexander and Alex Henshall. We of course met in a pre-season match at Alfredian Park when Marine ran out 5-4 winners with two goals from Conor McDonagh, and Henry Spalding, Zack Kotwica and Frankie Artus with the other goals.

Marine will be looking to make it three wins on the trot but we may well see a number of changes from our starting eleven on Saturday with the two Development players, Rowen Doyle and Tom Golledge promoted to the first team tonight as manager Lee Spalding will look to utilise the squad with another tough league game at Hendon due at the weekend. Frankie Artus and George Dowling remains doubtful through injury for tonight’s cup tie.

To make it to this stage we of course overcame Larkhall Athletic 4-1, with goals from Mat Liddiard, Chris Zebroski and a brace from Harry Williams. Salisbury were up next and we won 3-1 at the Ray McEnhill Stadium with an own goal from Salisbury’s Sam Roberts, Tyrone Duffus and Chris Zebroski. This was followed by a 3-0 home win over Melksham Town 3-0 with goals from Lewis Hall, Kieran Phillips and Zack Kotwica.

However, with a place in the Quarter Finals at stake these games start to take on a tad more importance than in previous rounds. We do need your support to help Marine make the next stage so please come on over to the Webbswood Stadium with reduced admission prices, and hot food and drinks available!
