Winchester City v Swindon Supermarine Review

Winchester City v Swindon Supermarine Preview:

We return to Hampshire on Saturday afternoon, with a trip to take on the Citizens at the Charters Community Stadium, kick off 3pm.

Supermarine will be looking to make it three games without defeat when they head to Winchester this Saturday afternoon, and it’s another game that Head Coach Stuart Fleetwood is very much looking forward to.

“We’re going in to an away trip of the back of two decent results, including our first win and to back that up with our first clean sheet in our draw,” he said previewing the fixture.

“Four points in a week is pleasing, so to go to Winchester on another unbeaten run, it’s building and our game against Sholing was the most comfortable I’ve been on the touchline – that second half just flew by – I wasn’t nervous or worried about us the lads are taking on everything we’re saying and they’re managing the games really well in key moments.

“There’s still a few things where we perhaps get a little excited and go and press the ball when we don’t need too, or we commit a foul where we really shouldn’t and give them a free kick in the ninetieth minute – little things like that that can still be changed, but their effort and application over the last week has been spot on.”

Meanwhile, our hosts enter the game looking to stretch their unbeaten run to four following a late fightback at Hungerford midweek which left manager Craig Davis feeling philosophical about his sides chances about gaining the points in home games given supporters’ expectations that the Hampshire side should be winning games and competing at the top end of the table in the future.

“I’ve just said to the players in there [the changing rooms], the big question mark hanging over their heads is can they do it against the teams that aren’t higher in the league, and particularly at home?” he said following their great 2-2 draw.

“If we’re going to move on and become a good team – a team that can compete nearer to the top of the table, we should never be anywhere near the top of the table, but we’re more than good enough to do it, but if we are going to do it, we need to produce performances like – and no disrespect to Swindon because they’re an established club at this level, but at the minute they’re having a bad season, but they’ve turned it around with a new manager and will be tough opposition, but for us to kick on, we need to win games at home – or try too.”
