Supermarine v Gosport Preview
Friday 18th August 2023
Marine vs Gosport Preview:
We’re back at the Webbswood Stadium for the second time this season, as we host Pat Suraci and Joe Lea and their south coast side, kick off 3pm.
Supermarine continue the search for their opening three points of the campaign on Saturday afternoon, with another tough ask against Gosport Borough who sit in second place along side Merthyr Town with a 100% record from the first three games.
There’s no doubt that the Marine performances are improving and having run Salisbury close on Tuesday evening, the side will know the kind of work-rate expected from them and confidence remains high in the camp that points will follow if they remain committed to the plan.
All eight of Gosport’s goals have come in the final 30 minutes of games, so fitness is a key aspect of their strategy this season and speaking after last Saturdays win at Plymouth Parkway, coach Pat Suraci told his sides media team: “Obviously we’re going to be pleased with the start that we’ve made. We’ve performed well in both our games, we’ve shown good organisation and resilience in some tough moments and we’ve scored at good times in both games, the boys have done a lot of the things we’ve asked them to.”
He continued: “They’ve bought in to what we’re trying to do since day one and I think we’re bearing the fruits of that now, but we’re not going to get carried away – it’s two games in a long season so we’ll be going back on the coach and looking at the Basingstoke Town game on Wednesday and then on Saturday in Swindon.”
The visitors have also reported injuries to midfielders Bradley Tarbuck and Daniel Hollands since the opening day so neither are expected to feature tomorrow, while defender Archie Wilcox has recently left the club.
Marine manager Lee Spalding reports that whilst there are a few players with niggles and some will be taking a prematch fitness test, defender Tom Sharpe will definitely miss the game and will likely be sidelined for a few weeks with an injury to his knee after coming off in the 29th minute against Salisbury on Tuesday.

We encourage our spectators to use the Stagecoach Number 7 bus from the town centre bus station, with a route via Greenbridge Retail Park and The Crown Inn at Stratton. It’s a twenty-three-minute bus ride to the last bus stop in the South Marston Industrial Estate (Exel stop).
Just ask the bus driver to stop for you at the bus stop for the Supermarine Sports Complex, and then it’s just a few minutes’ walk from there to the ground. This makes the Webbswood Stadium more accessible to all and has greener credentials, please try it!
