MARINE SHOW GREAT CHARACTER TO COME FROM BEHIND

With both teams in good form at the moment in the Premier South Division and although the teams were at both ends of the table, a good game looked on the cards. This was quick to be proven as Gosport should have taken the early goal when Bradley Tarbuck with a lovely solo run did well to switch the ball out wide into Harvey Rew. The midfielder then tried to find Dan Wooden in the middle of the box but instead found Marine’s Sam Turl who cleared the danger.

In the next attack Gosport took the leas. Dan Hollands sent over a perfect cross into the centre of the box. This was met by *Dan Wooden, who was on the move very quickly, as he got ahead of Ioan Richards to head the ball home into the top corner of the net to give Marine keeper Conor Brann no chance and open the scoring for the home side.

Marine were instantly looking for an equaliser as Jake Andrews whipped a dangerous ball into the back post and with Mat Liddiard stretching for the ball he was adjudged by the referee to have handled the ball that hit the outside of the post. The referee quickly showed Liddiard a yellow card for his efforts.

Marine had a spell of possession which led to a couple of attacks and one of these led to Marine scoring a deserved equaliser in the 28th minute. Marine attacked down the left hand side after a Gosport player gave the ball away to Henry Spalding and a delightful cross from him saw Levi Irving at the back post to score the equaliser from a couple of yards from goal with the Gosport keeper Toby Steward left stranded on his goal line.

Following the equalising goal, another good cross from Marine that was met by Joe Tumelty who hit a first time shot which just skimmed the top of the crossbar. This was quickly followed by Marine’s second goal when Zack Kotwica fortunately received the ball from a Gosport player in midfield he slid ball through to Marine striker Dave Simms-Burgess to run onto.

He outpaced his marker Harry Medway to get away from him and closed down on Steward in the Gosport goal. From a couple of yards inside the penalty box, and from a tight angle Dave Sims-Burgess drilled the ball into the far bottom corner passed Steward for a 2-1 lead to Marine.

The second half was only three minutes old when Gosport should have probably scored an equalising goal. Harvey Rew slipped the ball through to Jake Scrimshaw in behind the Marine defence and with a loud appeal from the Marine defence for the striker to be offside, the attacker was in acres of space with an open goal and just Conor Brann to beat. Fortunately for Marine Scrimshaw skied his effort and Marine were left still in the lead!

Harvey Rew then had a shot from 20 yards out which was heading for the top corner before Marine keeper Conor Brann got his fingertips to the shot and sent it over the bar for a corner which was eventually cleared. Rew did have another shot at goal after Dan Hollands delivered another brilliant cross into the Marine box which luckily for Marine he shot wide.

In the last few minutes substitute Gerson Ramos had a low shot that beat keeper Conor Brann but fortunately for Marine defender Ioan Richards was on hand to clear the ball off the goal line and away to safety before the final whistle went a couple of minutes later.
