SUPERMARINE BREAK THEIR DUCK … AT LAST!

Swindon Supermarine took on fellow Southern League Premier Division rivals Tiverton Town at home in the final FA Trophy qualifying round on Saturday afternoon. Head Coach Stuart Fleetwood stuck with the side that had drawn at Tiverton in the league the previous weekend with Brad Gray and Ben Whitehead hoping to make an impact from the bench.

Swindon were quickly into their stride with Zack Kotwica having an effort deflect wide and Jake Andrews having a strike held by keeper Williams soon after. Liban Ibrahim was looking lively on the left and after a tremendous mazy run he unfortunately dragged his effort wide on 10 minutes.

It was no shock when Marine finally made the breakthrough a minute later as Levi Irving was put through to slide home under the keeper and open the scoring, continuing his fine run in front of goal this season.

Conor Brann was forced into his first stop of the game on 18 minutes but it was Ed Williams with the next effort on goal as Marine held the sway with possession and territory.

A poor challenge from former Marine man Mat Britton on Ibrahim saw the midfielder rightly dismissed and from the free kick Jake Andrews swung the ball in for Ioan Richards to guide home for his debut goal for the club and give Marine the two goal lead they deserved after 39 minutes.

Ed Williams had a go from his own half late on but Fleetwood and Gillespie would go into the changing room more than content with the showing. A change at the break saw Henry Spalding replaced by Brad Gray and after keeping possession from kick and putting a 20 pass move together, Sam Turl placed a perfect ball in front of goal for Brad Gray to net with his first touch and first goal of his latest spell with the club, 3-0 and all seemed done?

The remainder of the second half meandered along with Marine keeping the ball well and Joe Tumelty having a couple of attempts on goal blocked. Ed Williams should have made it four on 66 but put over after a another lovely flowing move. Then out of the blue a neat move from Tivvy saw River Allen blast the ball into the top corner from some 20-yards out in front of goal. Home keeper Conor Brann got finger tips to the shot but couldn’t keep it out.

It was a false dawn for the visitors as despite a tip over from Brann soon after, changes were made as Ben Whitehead for Zack Kotwica and Mat Liddiard, who was back from injury, replacing Ioan Richards with Whitehead having an effort cleared off the line in the final minutes.

But the job was done and a the place in the next round secured. Their reward and up next is Basingstoke Town at home on October 28th with League action next weekend at Harrow Borough as Marine look to secure their first three points of the season.
