Match Report from Aleck Everard
FIVE GOAL THRILLER AT THE WEBBSWOOD AS MARINE CONTINUE GOOD RUN
Swindon Supermarine kept their unbeaten league run going with a superb topsy-turvy 3-2 win over title chasers Truro City. Marine who had never beaten the Cornish outfit in their previous nine encounters and were unchanged from the excellent point on the road at Hayes & Yeading United. And they made the perfect start when Henry Spalding’s dribble and shot was blocked and rebounded back to the league’s top scorer Harry Williams who stroked the ball home for his 32nd goal of the season with just six minutes on the clock.

Truro danger man Tyler Harvey got up for his first header at goal soon after but Josh Gould was down well to gather before Ryan Campbell nearly made it two nil with a fierce effort which well saved by keeper James Hamon in the visiting goal following a corner that was cleared to the edge of the box. Skipper Mat Liddiard was harshly yellow carded for a foul on twenty minutes before Kyle Egan came close for Truro with a header that went just over the crossbar.

Marine were then forced into an early change with the disappointment of seeing top scorer Harry Williams departing the filed with a groin injury on twenty-eight minutes with Conor McDonagh entering the fray. Marine fans will be hoping it isn’t a serious injury. Skipper Mat Liddiard was next to come close to scoring just after the half hour mark when following a cleared free kick he volleyed an effort which flicked the top of the bar although some spectators believed keeper Hamon got a finger tip to the shot?

Marine had been the better of the sides in the first period with Ryan Campbell causing all manner of problems for the Truro back line and they would look to keep the pressure on in the second period. Truro debutant Yassine En-Neyeh was booked early in the half for a nasty looking foul on Ryan Campbell, which on another day might have seen red. Shortly afterward Truro made a double change with Shane White and Harvey Greenslade departing for Oliver Haste and Andrew Neal. It didn’t have the desired effect and the scoreline stayed as it was.

James Harding came of for Joe Tumelty on sixty minutes, who was feeling unwell, and within a minute of entering the play from a long range shot by Conor McDonagh the ball struck the outstretched foot of James Harding and looped in over Hamon to make it 2-0 and an immediate impact from the substitute! But Truro are title chasers for a reason and struck back with a quickfire double on sixty-seven and sixty-nine minutes.

The impressive Dan Sullivan set in Tyler Harvey in space at the back post and he drilled the ball into the bottom corner of the net to make it 2-1, before Yassine En-Neyah stunned the home crowd when he made it 2-2, poking the ball over the line from about 6-yards. The momentum was with the visitors and it was only down to a great save from Josh Gould diving high to his left that Sullivan was denied a third for the Tigers on seventy-two minutes.

Marine finally weathered the storm and this long unbeaten run meant spirit was strong within the camp. With twelve minutes left Henry Spalding did well to get a cross into the box and when Sam Turl won a header at the back post there was James Harding on hand to head home from very very close in to make it 3-2 to Marine. Harding bringing up his tenth Marine goal in just fifteenth starts showing what a potential threat he is up top.

Despite a lot of late pressure with Ed Palmer heading a corner on to the top of the bar and over with a minute to go and then with the last kick of the game the ball easily being cleared away off the line by Sam Turl Marine held on for a brilliant three points. There is no doubt that a playoff chase is on for Marine and with performances like this we have every hope of making that happen.
